Learn more about Selenite Range HA (Nevada)

The Selenite Range Herd Area (HA) in Nevada is part of the larger Blue Wing Complex, located approximately 50 miles southwest of Winnemucca. This area encompasses diverse landscapes and is designated for the management of wild horse populations. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has set Appropriate Management Levels (AMLs) for the complex, which includes the Selenite Range, to maintain a sustainable population of wild horses and burros. The current wild horse population in the area is estimated to be around 2,081, while the burro population is approximately 768. AWHC advocates for humane management practices, including fertility control, to ensure the health and viability of these iconic animals in their natural habitat.
