American Wild Horse Conservation (AWHC) is deeply disturbed by the circumstances surrounding eleven known Virginia Range horses that appeared in a California “direct-ship pen” (where horses are shipped directly to kill pens to be sent to slaughter across our borders). Equally alarming is the disappearance of a young foal from one of the two family bands that were removed, and the subsequent death of that foal's mother.
We strongly urge the Nevada Attorney General's office and Governor Lombardo to fully investigate how this situation occurred. It appears to be in violation of Nevada Revised Statutes and is certainly a violation of public trust. We ask that details about who removed the horses and why the law was not followed be made public so the citizens of Nevada understand how this was allowed to happen.
AWHC stands ready to assist any investigating agency.
