Fifteenmile Herd HMA Wild Horse Roundup Reports

Welcome to our roundup reporting page for the Fifteenmile Herd Management Area in Wyoming’s Big Horn Basin, where you will find eyewitness reports, photographs, videos, and daily updates as the Bureau of Land Management carries out a helicopter roundup.

Beginning on or after September 15, the BLM plans to gather the HMA’s estimated 386 wild horses and permanently remove approximately 286. This would reduce the herd to about 100 horses, the lowest end of the agency’s established Appropriate Management Level of 100 to 230 horses, across nearly 81,000 acres.

The roundup will separate established family bands and send hundreds of wild horses into the federal holding system. Horses removed from the range will be transported to the Rock Springs off-range holding facility, where they will undergo veterinary evaluations before entering the BLM’s adoption and sales programs.

Our field observers will attend whenever access is provided to witness helicopter drives, monitor horse welfare, document roundup conditions, and provide the public with transparent, independent reporting.

This page will serve as a living record of the Fifteenmile roundup. Throughout the operation, we will publish daily capture, removal, release, and mortality totals, along with photographs, videos, and firsthand observations from the field.

We hope these reports bring greater transparency to the removal and strengthen the call for humane, science-based management that protects viable wild horse herds and keeps America’s wild horses where they belong: free on the range.
