Comes in Advance of an Accelerated, Inhumane Wild Horse Helicopter Roundup Amidst Heightened Concerns for the Safety of Young Foals and Pregnant Mares During Foaling Season
Meeker, Colo. (July 13, 2022)– Today, the American Wild Horse Conservation (formerly American Wild Horse Campaign) echoes the concerns and disappointment that Colorado Gov. Jared Polis relayed in a letter directed to Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Interim Colorado State Director Stephanie Connolly. The letter addresses the upcoming, large-scale, and inhumane helicopter roundup in Colorado’s Piceance-East Douglas Herd Management Area. This roundup was originally scheduled to occur in September 2022, but recently, theBLMaccelerated the roundup to July. (Backgroundhere.)
The accelerated time frame is significant as it is still foaling season where young foals and heavily pregnant mares are likely to be chased by helicopter in the impending Piceance roundup, which is scheduled to begin on Friday, July 15th.
Said Colorado-based AWHC Spokesperson Scott Wilson:
