Welcome to our roundup reporting page for the Moriah Herd Area in eastern Nevada, where you will find eyewitness reports, photographs, and videos from the field as the Bureau of Land Management conducts a helicopter roundup of the area’s wild horses.

Scheduled from July 27 through August 13, the operation targets 500 wild horses for capture and removal. Because Moriah is classified as a Herd Area rather than a Herd Management Area, the BLM does not manage the land for a permanent wild horse population, placing every horse captured there at risk of permanent removal from the range.

These reports will document what happens throughout the operation. Our field observers will attend whenever access is provided to witness helicopter drives, monitor horse welfare, record roundup conditions, and provide transparent, independent reporting from the field.

This page will serve as a living record of the Moriah roundup. As information becomes available, we will publish photographs, videos, daily capture totals, and firsthand observations so the public can understand what is happening to these wild horses.

We hope these reports shed light on the consequences of removing wild horses from lands no longer managed for their continued presence and strengthen the call for humane, science-based alternatives that protect wild horses on our public lands.
