We’re excited to share that our National Horse Protection Day petition to #HaltTheHelicopters and demand humane solutions for wild horse and burro management reached over 58,000 signatures!
Together, we made our voices loud and clear: The inhumane treatment of wild horses and burros by the federal government must end. You are part of a powerful movement demanding reform, and together, we are making sure the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) hears us.
Make no mistake, our voice matters.
The Day's celebration brought some exciting wins including:
- Colorado Governor Jared Polis issued aproclamationdesignating March as Horse Protection Month. He and First Gentleman Marlon Reis have actively celebrated the month and shared AWHC’s posts directly on social media.
- We presented ourFreedom Award to Governor Polisand ourWild Horse Annie Award to Colorado House Majority Leader Monica Duranat the State Capitol.
- A coalition of more than a dozen influencers and ambassadors, includingPierce Brosnan, amplified our message to over 10 million people.
- Over 58,000 petition signatures (and counting) demonstrated overwhelming public support.
- A ripple effect saw wild horse advocates and rescue organizations nationwide champion National Wild Horse Protection Day.
- Reintroduction of the SAFE Actto ban horse slaughter was announced on National Horse Protection Day, led by Senators Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Ben Ray Luján (D-NM), and Representatives Vern Buchanan (R-FL) and Jan Schakowsky (D-IL), with 100 co-sponsors.
Thank you for being part of this movement.More work lies ahead, but today, let’s celebrate what we’ve accomplished together—and keep the momentum going for the wild horses and burros who need us.
