Welcome to our roundup reporting page for the North Complex in northwestern Nevada. Here you’ll find daily updates, totals and information as the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) carries out a helicopter roundup.

The operation began October 17, 2026. The BLM plans to capture about 320 wild horses it calls “excess,” from both inside and outside the North Complex, using a helicopter drive trap. The complex is in Washoe County, about 30 miles north of Reno. It includes the Dogskin Mountains, Flanigan and Granite Peak Herd Management Areas (HMAs) and covers about 341,145 acres. The BLM estimates about 424 horses live in and around the complex and has set the Appropriate Management Level (AML) at just 101 to 157 horses. The roundup will break up established family bands and leave a small remnant population on the range.

On September 4, 2026, the BLM published a Notice of Intent to Impound. The notice told the public to remove privately owned livestock because the agency intends to impound unauthorized livestock on public lands and any other lands under the Carson City District Office’s jurisdiction. The notice did not say how this affects horses owned by the State or by Tribes.

AWHC does not have an observer on site for this roundup. We will post the BLM’s daily capture, removal, release and death totals here, along with any other information that becomes available. We hope this record brings transparency to the roundup and support humane, science-based management that keeps herds viable on our public lands.
