Wild horse advocates are actively opposing the Bureau of Land Management's (BLM) plans to round up wild horses in Beaver and Iron Counties. The American Wild Horse Conservation (formerly American Wild Horse Preservation) stated in a press release that theBLMintends to spend millions of taxpayer dollars to round up federally protected wild horses, allegedly to benefit a few ranchers with below-market grazing on public lands. They report that 35,000 people have submitted comments to the Bureau of Land Management, urging the agency not to 'appease' ranchers by rounding up the wild horses.

According to The Salt Lake Tribune, theBLMin Washington has approved funding to remove 140 horses this summer from the Blawn Wash area, part of the Bible Spring Complex, which is state land where wild horses are not supposed to roam. The Salt Lake Tribune notes that this is the first of several planned roundups over the next decade, aiming to reduce the wild horse population from an estimated 777 to a range deemed appropriate by the agency, which is 80-170 horses.
