Wild horse advocates are engaged in a legal battle to prevent the removal of mustangs from Wyoming's checkerboard lands. They are opposing the state's efforts to intervene in their case against the Bureau of Land Management (BLM). This case has drawn significant attention due to the implications for wild horse populations and land management policies.
Governor Matt Mead has expressed his support for the roundup, which targets more than 800 horses, and announced that the state would seek to intervene in the case. However, the plaintiffs, including the American Wild Horse Conservation (formerly American Wild Horse Preservation Campaign), the Cloud Foundation, Return to Freedom, Carol Walker, and Kimerlee Curyl, have filed papers opposing Wyoming's motion to intervene in the lawsuit.
