A U.S. appeals court has ruled that the federal government's 2014 roundup of over 1,200 wild horses in Wyoming violated laws protecting these animals andfederal lands. This decision marks a significant reversal of a previous ruling.

The 10th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals issued a brief order overturning a Wyoming federal judge's decision that had supported the U.S. Bureau of Land Management's authority to conduct the roundup in the Wyoming Checkerboard region.
